Staying Positive is Controlling Your Way of Thinking
Staying positive can sometimes be a challenge especially when it feels like everything is working against you. It also doesn’t help when you have people in your life who don’t support you. I am going to share ways to overcome all of the negativity and how to be a more positive-productive person to better serve you.
What Led Me To Write This Topic?
Over the year I became interested in this topic when I realized how negative of a person I can be. I have found numerous blogs/YouTube channels on this topic. My favorite is by Elle- from LaBeaute.org. She has a great blog post on this topic that is very inspirational, “3 Way I Taught My Brain to be More Positive (And So Can You!)”. This post is it is worth the read. I stumbled upon Mimi Ikonn’s YouTube video, “How to Deal with Negativity and Be Positive.” I loved listening to her advice. I’ve applied these tips and ideas to be more positive in my daily life, and now I am going to pass on my personal experience.
First Thing Is First
Identify the source of negativity you are surrounded by. Is it through Family, Friends, your work environment, You, or all of the above? Negativity drains a lot of energy from you causing you to be less productive. So, let’s get that energy back and be productive!
Friends/Family
Usually, when you are negative it is because you are surrounded by negative people. You cannot change the people around you but you can change your way of thinking and the actions you take to better yourself. Try to surround yourself with people who are positive thinkers, goal chasers, people who don’t bring you down, and people who support you. Kick those negative people out of your life! Stop being friends, stop associating with them. You can slowly exclude yourself from their life or you can do it drastically, lol! Whatever way you feel is fitting to your situation. If it’s a family member who is the source of negativity, have an honest conversation with them about what needs to change. My immediate family members have always been great supporters of me!
Work Environment
My job allows me to travel and experience various workplaces. My personal number one outside source of negativity comes within the workplace. I always have to remind myself whenever I do anything not everyone is going to be pleased with my ideas, work, abilities, etc. Also, keep in mind that when someone you don’t really know well is spreading hate or negativity at you, it has nothing to do with you. They are just not happy with themselves. Keep rocking it at work! Don’t let them get you down, some people are jealous or they want the position you hold.
You
A lot of negativity comes within. Remember, you control how you feel! If all you do is complain about the things you have to do, you will never succeed or it will take you longer to get there. Negativity will drain you of your time and energy. Put that energy into better use towards accomplishments! So, let’s break out of the bad habits and start some good ones!
Change your mindset: Start looking at the task at hand in a different way. Remember that the hard work you bring into your life is your decision. Try to remind yourself of the reason why you started this journey. What is the goal? Repeat it to yourself every day. Leave sticky notes around the house to remind you of what goals you are after. Start looking at the journey as a good thing, it is a time to learn and develop so embrace those challenges. Start looking at your failures as a positive thing- (Now you know what doesn’t work so you will try a different approach to success).
Meditate: Meditate daily for 10 minutes. Meditation is not easy but it can be rewarding. I am new at meditation. I use an app called Headspace, it’s really good!
Keep a Journal: A Journal is a good way to focus on positivity. I like to write three positive things to reflect on daily even if the positive thing that happened to me was small.
Exercise: Exercise is a great stress reliever. I like going for a run and maybe doing a workout off YouTube so that I don’t get bored with the same routine.
Read Motivational books! I like this one From Good to Great
Also, always be nice to others and be nice to yourself.
Well, that’s all I have on Positivity! I am thinking about breaking this down into a series of topics, let me know if it is something you would be interested in reading!
