What is SEO? I heard this word so much when I first started blogging but no one was able to explain it good enough for me to truly understand. You see it is quite complicated. This is why a lot of people might Hire an SEO Company. The only thing I understood was the fact that you needed to use them in your blog or your blog will never be discovered through Google.
Quick disclaimer: This blog post is simply free advice and it’s an opportunity to share my journey in becoming a Fashion Blogger. My intent is to inspire new bloggers to work towards their goals by sharing my success and my mistakes.
First encounters with SEO
This post is a continuation of my blog post ‘Fashion Blogging For Beginners: The Mistakes I Made Starting My Fashion Blog.’ So, I did not use SEO nor did I know what SEO was during my first year of blogging. As a matter of fact, I am still fixing up my SEO on my blog. It is very time-consuming.
As a matter of fact, when I first heard about SEO from a friend who was talking about how they got SEO help from Web Design Plus SEO, I immediately became intimidated of that word because when people tried to give tips, it was a foreign language to me; Oh my gosh!
What is SEO?
From what I understand, Google runs off of a rating system algorithm. If your webpage gets enough traffic and you talk about something relevant then you have a higher chance for your blog to be rated high and people will find your content in the endless sea of other blogs. Meaning, when people type in keywords on Google search, your blog will one of the top web pages to pop up. Also, make sure that your content is high quality so that you can improve your chances of sharing your content.
Keywords!
Last year, I stumbled upon a plugin for my WordPress called Yoast. I did not quite know how to use it until recently. Today, I am going to share with you everything that I know so far as I am still learning about SEO.
When you write your content, you want to make sure that you select a keyword that is trending. Yoast gives you access to Google trends and keyword trends, like for instance: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. This is a phrase that is trending right now and it will bring traffic to your blog.
How to use Yoast
I am still learning a lot about Yoast and I don’t have the premium Yoast. Basically, if your SEO is not good, your content will have a red dot next to the SEO score. Yellow is for okay and green is for good. My friend hired Calgary SEO to do some work for her and they really helped her. I like to learn things for myself so I downloaded Yoast to try and improve my SEO instead.
How do I make my SEO Score Green?
-I make sure that the keyword is in the title of my blog post
-The keyword has to be in the first paragraph of my blog post
-Make sure your pictures (Alt Text) has the keyword in it as well
-I also provide outside links to items but I won’t use the keyword or title as the Link Text.
If you follow these basic rules your SEO score will be good.
SEO Trends
As far as knowing what people are searching for in a blog post, it’s a little bit tricky. I try to stick with fashion titles that I know are trending. Pinterest and Instagram help you with locating some of these trends. If you guys have any extra information, please leave a comment below! Your feedback is valued.
So far this is my grasp on SEO! Style Collective mentioned that” Google updates their algorithm 500 times a year.” so SEO isn’t just about keywords, we need to make sure we are putting out quality information as well as the content.
So I hope this blog post was helpful to you. I am currently working on getting all of my old blog posts an SEO score. I have 30 more posts to fix!
